Reflection Blog

My audience is bowlers in general. Any one that is a pro bowler, beginner, or just plain bowl for fun. The purpose of my webtext is to inform people about the Storm manufacturing company, mainly there bowling balls. The design didn't work out how I wanted it to, I wanted the side colum, but I couldn't get it to work and it kept messing up my text so I gave up. It is organized from least amount of information to the greatest amount of information. I think any bowler will be glad to have a site that tells what each type of bowling ball is used for and some examples of that type of bowling ball.
I am very proud of the way it turned out. I really like the pictures and all the links. I think it looks good and is easy to read. I think the pictures of the bowling balls will aid a person in knowing what they are looking for.
If I had had more time I would have figured out how to do those stupid columns. It just got to the point where I couldn't waste anymore time on figuring it out. I think this is what I would have improved on as well. If I knew all about the technology, I would have been able to figure it out no problem.
My research came from the official Storm website. There is no better site to use than the official one for your topic! It had all the information I needed and more. It is easy to find things and even easier to gain the knowledge you need. My supplemental sources are links to bowling ball review pages. These will take the reader to a page that actual bowlers use to comment on the ball they throw. Anyone can comment from pros to beginners so they really are a great thing to look at before you go to get a ball. One is strictly Storm balls and the other two are any bowling ball. I always go to a ball review site before I spend the money on a ball. I can read all about the pros and cons that other people have found and determine if it really is the ball I want.
All in all I think that this project went well. I enjoyed doing the project and I learnded how to work some new programs.

MM project progress

Ive found all the information I need to find. I have all the pictures I need and all the links I am going to add. I have typed out the webtext and all I have to do now is add the pictures and links. I hope we are going to go over how to make the side column in class because its on the examples and I have no idea how to do it. The only thing I really have to work on is my references page.

MM Webtext/Podcast Proposal

My webtext is going to be about Storm Manufacturing including the staff and bowling balls. This will include the tournament records of the staff as well as biographys, and it will explain the three different types of bowling balls and when you would use them.The podcast slide show is going to show the other equipment Storm makes such as the bowling bags, wrist gaurds, and shoes.

Podcast Reflection

My podcast is directed at any high school bowler, or someone in high school that wants to be on the bowling team. The purpose was to inform them about the rules and the season time. The rules are very important because they are strictly enforced. The design of the front page has the IHSB Logo on it, which is the logo that must be on the Team shirts, I thought this was important so that they knew what it looked like. The organization went from the season to the practices and then to the dress code. This is because that is pretty much the organization of the bowling year. You find out when you start then you have practices followed by meets where the dress code is put into affect. I think my assignment turned out really well and it is full of very important information that any high school bowler will need to know. I am very proud of how well the information turned out and how well it is pieced together. If I had had more time I may have put different sounds at the beginning and end. I wanted to do the sound of a ball on the lane at the very beginning and the sound of pins at the end, but because of personal issues I missed a day of class. I don't think I would change anything due to more technical knowledge. I know the program and what you can do with it, it was more time.

For my research I used the IHSB site and some of the coaches PDF files off line. These gave me all the information I needed. I was really happy with how easy it was to find what I needed. The website is really organized and it doesn't take long to find answers to your questions.

All in all I am very happy with the way it turned out considering I missed a day of class. It probably could have sounded a little better, but I don't like recording in class where everyone can hear me talk, so it is like a whisper in the beginning and it gets a little louder as I go on. I knew the technology because I used it last year, so it really wasn't all that difficult.

My podcast is going to center around high school bowling. It is going to cover the season, rules, and practices. Mostly it is going to be based on my own personal experience. The rules and season I am going to get off line because the rules change a little every year, and the season seems to get later every year.

My main focus with the rules is going to be the differences between a school league and an adult league. Adult leagues can wear what ever they want where as school leagues have a very strict dress code that all bowlers and coaches must follow. Also with the dress code, in adult league you can wear jewelry, and in school leagues you are allowed one wrist watch, one ring per hand, one stud earing per ear, and that is is. No necklaces,nose rings, tongue rings, multiple ear piercings, ect.

Practices are different as well because in high school you have to practice twice a week,but its free and in adult league if you want to practice you have to do it on your own time, and you have to pay for it.

I think this is going to be a cool podcast. Let me know what you think.

Reflectoin

I chose bowling because I knew I would have a large audience and because I love the sport. The reason for my webtext is just to inform people about bowling and where they can go to bowl. When organizing it I put the list of places first because I felt it was the most important thing. I made sure to use bright colors and some pictures to catch the readers eye. I also put in a video on how to bowl and the technique for someone that doesnt know how to bowl. I am proud of not only the list of alleys, but the mear fact that i got it done. If I had had more time I would have put in more pictures, but I got so confused with Dream Weaver and the Picture thing we had to do to make it work I got frustrated and just said whatever. If I had a better knowledge of Dream Weaver and how to put things into it I would have been able to make the page the way I invisioned it. In my text I have links to all my sources because I took little pieces from them and paraphrased, but there is still a wealth of information on those sites that may be interesting to some people. I also included some additional sites that have some pretty interesting articles about bowling and bowling news. My favorite link sends you to a page with a ton of equipment you can buy. I could spend so much money. All in all I think the project was interesting, but I didnt like Dream Weaver and I dont think my webtext is as good as it could have been because of my lack of knowledge on how to use Dream Weaver.

Expanding my Topic

I think for my podcast I am going to go into the direction of talking about Highschool Bowling and how it doesnt get the credit, or recognition it deserves. My highschool didnt even recongnize it as a sport and when I bought my own letter for my lettermans jacket, they wanted me to remove it because it wasnt recognized. Of course I didnt and had a few choice words with some people. Indiana is working on passing a bill to make Bowling a Sanctioned School Sport, but there has to be a certain amount of school that have bowling teams before the State can do anything about it so right now it is up to the school to recognize it, and many dont.

So I have found a lot of cool stuff. I have a long list of local bowling alleys and their phone numbers. If they have a web site I plan on making their name a link to there page which will be pretty cool. This way you dont have to search for them there all in a nice Table! I also found the history of bowling and it is over 5,000 years old. I have a lot of bowling gear and equipment pages as well as proshop pages that will be links in my web text as well.

My web text is comming along I guess. I have all the information I need and its all organized in my head, but I have no idea how to work this dream weaver thing and I dont have it on my computer at home so I pretty much waste time trying to figure out how the heck to do stuff which is aggervating. I have some really cool ideas for my web text but im not going to spend like 20 min of class trying to figure out how to do one thing.

The only thing I want to go over in my meeting is how to do stuff like putting in links and stuff because I want to make sure it is going to work right. Other than that I should be good.

Webtxt proposal

I did my proposal on Bowling. I am going to do the history of bowling, equipment used, and where you can go. I am using websites and videos to aid my topic.

Online Reading Overview and Topic

Lauren S. and I read the article about "Literacy." It was very boring and was hard to read mainly because the author wrote it as an opinion paper with some facts. There was way to much "I believe", "In my opinion" ,and "My experience." I really was not interested in what this guy thinks. I did however agree with some of the points he brought up. In today's society you kind of have to have some knowledge about technology. Every where we go and almost everything we do involves technology in some way. Our cars, cell phones, self-checkouts at stores, ATMs, credit cards, gas pumps, computers, calculators the list goes on and on. I think the article posses a great point, but it is possible to get the point across in a much shorter and more attention grabbing way. He talks about all this new technology why not use some to prove his point??

On a more interesting note I think for my web thingy I am going to do something with bowling. Probably explain the sport a little bit and talk about how it is growing. I can add the links for all the surrounding bowling alleys and pro-shops. I have been bowling since I was 4 so I know a lot about, I am good at it, and it is something that interests me.
